TAKIBI PROPANE INSERT RECALL PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PORTLAND, OR (September, 2026) – Snow Peak USA is recalling the Takibi Fire & Grill Propane Insert because it contains rock material that has the potential to explode or eject from the unit when heated.
The Takibi Fire & Grill Propane Insert (SKU: ST-332-US ) was sold through SnowPeak.com from Tuesday, July 28 to Wednesday, July 29 and delivered directly to consumers. Fewer than 100 units were sold. The Propane Insert is sold separately from the Takibi Fire & Grill and is a metal basket with propane coils covered by lava rocks. A propane attachment is affixed to the underside of the basket.
No injuries have been reported. Snow Peak received a report of rocks ejecting from the Takibi Fire & Grill shortly after the product launched. Snow Peak conducted internal testing and confirmed the issue. An investigation later determined that incorrect rock materials were substituted at the factory in Taiwan.
Snow Peak immediately issued a voluntary recall notice to all the consumers who had purchased the Propane Insert and offered a full refund for consumers who wanted to return their product. Impacted customers who did not return their product received replacement lava rocks at no cost. A notice was also posted on social media channels. Consumers with questions can contact Snow Peak at 1-888-424-4916 or [email protected]
TAKIBI PROPANE INSERT Q&A
Q: Why is Snow Peak recalling the Takibi Propane Insert?
A: Some of the rocks initially included with the Takibi Propane Insert can eject from the unit during use. Snow Peak has sourced lava rocks from a new supplier and held additional testing to ensure quality and safety. The new rocks will be sent to customers who previously purchased a Takibi Propane Insert and will be sold with the unit going forward.
Q: How did you learn about this issue?
A: We learned about the faulty product due to a customer report. We then tested several units to confirm the issue.
Q: How many Takibi Propane Inserts were purchased with the original rocks?
A: Under 100 units were purchased before we ceased offering them.
Q: How do I participate in the recall?
A: To return your impacted unit, use Snow Peak’s Return Portal to begin the process. We will send you a shipping label. If you have an impacted unit and have not initiated a return, Snow Peak will send you a new batch of rocks to use with your product.
Q: Are all the Takibi Propane Inserts affected?
A: Out of an abundance of caution, we’re asking customers to cease use of the Takibi Propane Insert until we can send new lava rocks.
Q: Are other Snow Peak Stoves or Grills affected by the recall?
A: No, this issue is limited to the Takibi Propane Insert only.
Q: “I used my Takibi Propane Insert without issue - can I keep using it?”
A: No, despite using it without issue, we are requesting that customers cease use of all Takibi Propane Inserts until they receive new lava rocks from Snow Peak.
Q: When will I receive my refund?
A: If you choose to return your Takibi Propane Insert, refunds will be issued after customers initiate the return process through Snow Peak’s Return Portal.
Q: Can I just use different rocks?
A: No, very specific rocks are required for this product. Use of alternative rocks will void the warranty. Snow Peak has sourced new lava rocks and sent them to impacted customers. Going forward, all units will be sold with updated lava rocks.
Q: Who designed and manufactured the propane insert?
A: Snow Peak’s Japan-based R&D team designed the Takibi Propane Insert, and it was manufactured by a partner in Taiwan.
Q: Were they sold in other countries or just the United States?
A: This product was only available in the United States.
Q: Were there any injuries or damages reported?
A: No injuries or damage have been reported.
Q: What testing was conducted prior to the product being available to the public?
A: Each part of the product received rigorous testing. All parts have a CSA (a leading trusted certification in North America) accreditation that certifies gas pathways (hose, governors, regulators, etc). The lava rocks also underwent multiple rounds of testing, but due to trade constraints, a different supplier needed to be found, and Snow Peak was not informed. Snow Peak has found a new lava rock supplier and conducted additional quality and safety testing with the Takibi Propane Insert. The new lava rocks are safe and reliable for customer use.
Q: How did this happen?
A: The wrong type of rock material was inadvertently mixed with the approved and tested lava rock at the supply source, which is why some Takibi Propane Inserts have experienced this issue and some have not.
Q: What causes the whistling sometimes observed when using the product?
A: Each part of the product has a CSA accreditation. The whistling sound is the result of utilizing the safest parts available.
Q: What causes the minor warping sometimes observed when using the product?
A: Minor warping was observed during the product testing phase. The warping was determined to be non-structural and cosmetic only. When the product is used correctly, the lava rocks should obscure any visible warping. The warping does not impact burn quality or gas pathways. The unit is made of robust metal – and the design team sought to balance utility and ease of use with durability over time.
Q: Can I cook over the Takibi Propane Insert?
A: Yes, you can cook with the Takibi Propane Insert. However, we strongly recommend utilizing a pan, griddle, or tinfoil when cooking. Fat and oil drippings can cause clogs that inhibit gas flow. Additionally, the lava rocks’ absorbent nature means oil can accumulate over time, potentially causing flame flares and excess smoke.
